Jordan’s Epic Dana to Petra Trek

After breakfast, the group departs from the hotel in Amman at around 7:30 am and begins the drive toward the trekking starting point. The journey takes approximately two and a half hours, offering a chance to relax, get to know fellow hikers, or simply rest before the hike begins.

The trek opens in the varied landscapes of the Dana Biosphere Reserve, an area shaped by four distinct ecozones and known for its remarkable variety of plant and animal life. The route first follows mountain paths with sweeping views over the Dana Valley before descending into the more secluded al Khashasha Valley.

By the end of the day, a remote wilderness campsite awaits on the edge of the valley, providing a quiet and scenic place to settle in for the night.

Overnight: Wilderness Camping in Mansoura

After an early start, the group leaves the campsite feeling rested and heads toward Furon. The hike today is more demanding, but the effort is well rewarded as the trail gradually climbs into the mountains.

After about an hour of ascent, the landscape opens up to reveal sweeping views of the Sharah Mountains and the vast Wadi Araba Desert. These dramatic panoramas remain with you throughout the day as the route continues toward the campsite near Al Furon.

Upon arrival, there’s time to relax, enjoy a cup of tea, and take in the scenery while waiting for a well-deserved dinner at camp.

Overnight: Wilderness Camping in Furon

Setting out today, the trail takes us past Ras Al-Feid and into the remote corners of the country near Ghbour Whedat. The route follows a network of smaller paths traditionally used by Bedouin shepherds, winding along the contours of the Sharah Mountains.

Jagged black peaks rise above the trail, while steep canyon drops create dramatic scenery that makes this section of the trek truly breathtaking. As the hike continues, gentle climbs reveal ever-expanding views over the barren desert stretching below.

Approaching the wilderness campsite, the terrain gradually softens, and unusual, mushroom-shaped rock formations appear along the way, adding a unique charm to the landscape before the day comes to an end.

Overnight: Wilderness Camping in Ghbour Whedat

Today’s hike brings a noticeable change in scenery, with signs of human habitation becoming more frequent as we approach Little Petra. Along the way, we pass Bedouin camps, sheep pens, and small fields, offering a glimpse into the daily life of local communities. Early Nabataean ruins also appear on the route, including ancient wine and olive presses, aqueducts, and other water-management structures.

The trail eventually leads us up through a canyon lined with soft sandstone cliffs, before descending a narrow, steep staircase into Little Petra. Known as Siq al-Barid, or the Cold Canyon, this site is thought to have served as a kind of suburb of Petra, likely accommodating traders traveling along the Silk Road.

After exploring the fascinating ruins, the day concludes with a transfer to our accommodation, where hot showers and a comfortable night’s rest await.

Overnight: Bedouin Camp near Little Petra

On the final day of our trek, we approach Petra through a quieter route, avoiding the main tourist crowds. The trail winds through sandstone mountains, descending into Wadi Ghurab and then along a Nabataean path to a hidden plateau, where the Monastery comes into view.

After a short walk to the Monastery, there is time to pause and enjoy the view before continuing down more Nabataean steps into the heart of Petra. Along the way, we pass rock-cut tombs, temples, and a Roman-style theater, before arriving at the Treasury, the site’s most famous monument.

We conclude the visit by exiting through the Siq, a narrow canyon, and then head to our accommodation for the night.

Overnight: Hotel in Petra

After a leisurely breakfast, we leave Petra’s mountains behind and head toward the vast desert of Wadi Rum. Upon arrival, we meet our Bedouin hosts and begin a 4×4 jeep safari through the desert’s valleys and narrow gorges. Along the way, there are opportunities to explore rock inscriptions, climb sand dunes and natural rock bridges, and enjoy the dramatic desert scenery at your own pace.

As the day draws to a close, we watch one of the world’s most breathtaking sunsets before returning to camp. The evening is spent enjoying traditional Bedouin hospitality, a delicious dinner, a night under the stars, and, of course, plenty of tea.

Leaving the desert behind, we make our way to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth. Here, you can float effortlessly in the salty waters, try the renowned Dead Sea mud, relax by the pool, or indulge in a spa treatment—an ideal way to ease tired legs after several days of hiking.

In the late afternoon, we board the bus one final time and follow the winding road back to Amman, returning to the city where our adventure began.

On the final day of the tour, guests will check out from their accommodation and transfer to Queen Alia International Airport in Amman. For international flights, it is generally recommended to allow at least four hours to reach the airport and complete check-in procedures.
