Embark on a self-guided hiking trip that reveals the Albanian Riviera beyond the typical tourist paths. Walk from the sunlit shores of the Ionian Sea to the mountain heights of Llogara National Park, tracing shepherds’ paths and old cobbled trails that wind through olive groves, citrus orchards, and timeless stone villages. Along the way, you’ll swim in crystal-clear coves, savor fresh Mediterranean cuisine, and breathe in the herb-scented air of the Ceraunian Mountains.

Away from the summer crowds, spring and autumn reveal the Riviera’s tranquil beauty — empty beaches, quiet trails, and panoramic views all to yourself. With comfortable accommodations, daily luggage transfers, and GPS navigation provided, you’re free to enjoy a seamless journey at your own pace.

This tour is ideal for active travelers who appreciate nature, coastal scenery, and authentic local experiences.

Route details

Day 1
Tirana - Himare

The journey begins in Tirana (either at the airport or in the city), where you’ll receive your travel materials — including a roadbook, maps, GPS device, and SIM card — along with a short briefing about the days ahead. The scenic drive south toward the Albanian Riviera follows the Vjosa River, passes the salt pans of Narta Lagoon, and offers sweeping views over the Bay of Vlore before entering the Llogara Tunnel. On its other end, you’ll be greeted by the sun-drenched Riviera. A winding coastal road then leads through Mediterranean villages to the seaside town of Himare. Here, a hotel by the beach will serve as your base for the next five nights, with daily transfers to idyllic villages and pebble beaches along the Ionian coast for your hikes.

Tour provider's comments

Suitable for travelers in good health with a reasonable level of fitness. The tour includes moderate day hikes of 3–5 hours, most of which can be shortened, extended, or skipped if desired. Routes cover coastal, backcountry, and alpine terrain, following rocky and sometimes faint shepherd paths as well as old agricultural tracks. An optional ascent leads to the second-highest peak of the coastal mountains.
