Explore the very best of the Albanian Alps on this scenic trekking adventure. Begin your journey in vibrant Shkodra before traveling through the dramatic Drin Canyons and crossing the fjord-like waters of Komani Lake — one of the most spectacular routes into the mountains.

From here, hike through the rugged limestone landscapes of the Valbona Valley, often compared to the Dolomites of decades past. Traverse high passes between two National Parks, surrounded by the towering peaks of the Accursed Mountains, and soak in panoramic alpine views at every turn.

Continue to Theth, where the region’s cultural heritage comes to life in the historic Blood Feud Tower, then wander through green pastures to the peaceful hamlet of Nderlysa. Cool off with a refreshing dip in the Blue Eye, a vibrant natural spring hidden deep in the mountains. The tour concludes in Tirana, where a relaxed evening in the lively capital offers the perfect ending to your alpine journey.

This trip is available for a minimum of 2 people (€969 per person) in self-guided mode.

Route details

Day 1
Tirana - Shkodra

Transfer from Tirana (airport or city) to Shkodra takes about two hours; optional transfers from Podgorica are available on request. Upon arrival, you receive your roadbook, maps, phone and GPS device, followed by a brief introduction to the tour.

After settling in, you can explore Shkodra’s pedestrian center with its historic townhouses, visit the bazaar, or stop by the Marubi photo library. A short taxi ride brings you to Rozafa Castle for panoramic views. If time allows, you may also rent a bicycle to visit the lake-side villages of Shiroka and Zogaj for a fish meal and a splash in the Balkan's largest lake. Alternatively, enjoy an espresso or browse local artisan shops. In the evening, you can choose one of the many local restaurants for dinner and enjoy a drink at a bar, all while keeping tomorrow’s early start in mind.

Those arriving early can store extra luggage at the hotel for collection after the tour.

Hotel in Shkodra

Tradita Geg & Tosk Hotel and Restaurant, is located in Shkodra city. It is an old traditional house dating 1694, a nice traditional place, surrounded by an ethnography which Mr. Gjon Dukgilaj successfully transformed into a restaurant and hotel. Built with typical elements such as stones and wood, the interior is furnished, decorated with the old authentic objects and traditional costumes from the area. Seasonally the owner transforms the complex into a museum in order for the clients to enjoy the Albanian culture atmosphere.
