Enchanted Trails of Serra de Sintra

We begin at 9:30 am with a trail to Capuchos Convent, one of the most authentic witnesses of Sintra’s primeval forest. Hidden among moss-covered stones, we will see this austere Franciscan monument that feels suspended in time. Locals still whisper that “those who wish to uncover the convent’s secrets must first die”.

From there, we move toward Monserrate, a masterpiece of Romantic landscaping. We will observe exotic Victorian gardens and elegant palace, blending Gothic, Indian, and Moorish influences.

Connecting these two landmarks is a peaceful 7 km forest trail. The walk is gentle, immersive, and deeply calming.

On the way back, the forest reveals a different mood. The trail is shorter but equally magical, bathed in the warm golden light of late afternoon. We pause at the Musketeers’ Lagoon, where the surrounding forest is mirrored in still, reflective waters — a moment made for silence and photographs.

Optional Experience: Wine & History

For those who wish to extend the journey, a final highlight awaits. We visit Carcavelos, one of Portugal’s oldest certified wine regions, founded in 1752 by Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, the Marquis of Pombal .

Here, we explore local vineyards and visit two wineries, ending in an original 19th-century wine cellar commissioned by the Marquis himself. Inside this historic building, we enjoy a guided tasting of three fine fortified wines from this authentic terroir.

The third day, we will dive into the most mystical side of the Sintra Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Portugal’s most enchanting natural landscapes.

This hike takes you beyond postcard views and into the living soul of Sintra. Along the way, you’ll meet local communities, learn about ancient customs, and experience the quiet magic that has made these mountains legendary.

We ascend to the highest points of the Serra, including the Peninha Sanctuary, where dramatic cliffs open onto endless Atlantic horizons. This is a place of silence, wind, and stories — where myths feel surprisingly close.

Our journey continues to Sintra’s most traditional village, founded in the 16th century and known as the Village of the Holy Spirit. With its flowing fountains and fresh streams, it feels untouched by time. Here, we pause for lunch in a rustic tavern to enjoy authentic local cuisine.

In the afternoon, the trail leads past horse-breeding farms before drawing us back into a shaded forest corridor. Surrounded by ancient trees, we complete our hike at the Capuchos Convent, a site defined by simplicity, solitude, and spiritual depth.

An old fishing trail leads us toward the wild beauty of Ursa Beach, ranked by the Michelin Guide as one of the world’s most beautiful beaches.
We admire it from above, in its raw and untouched form.

The path continues along dramatic cliffs shaped by wind and ocean. Here we reach Fojo, a deep natural well connected to the sea. Look down nearly 90 meters — and decide for yourself whether the Romans were right to believe Triton lived below.

Next stop: Adraga Beach, named one of Europe’s top 20 beaches by The Sunday Times. From here, we head toward our final coastal destination.

But first, a step back in time. 130 million years back. We'll discover dinosaur footprints from the Lower Cretaceous period, preserved in stone.

Optional Experience — Wine at the Edge of Europe

The day may end at Europe’s westernmost vineyard. An 18th-century estate between the Atlantic Ocean and the Sintra mountains. We walk the vineyards, visit the winery and taste some of Portugal’s most enigmatic wines.

Shaped by the sea, these wines reveal saline notes, freshness, and elegant balance.

Today, it's time to take leave of enchanted hills of Serra de Sintra. Enjoy your last breakfast, then request a private transfer to Lisbon airport (available at an additional cost). Depending on your flight time, you may have the chance for a final stroll through the city or a quick café stop before heading to the airport.
